What is this deck plate for?

Maybe it is just meant to be a cover for a hole that was made for whatever reason. It obviously needs replacing so take it out and see what exactly is underneath and if some work was done there.

Well, I finally got a chance to take the plate all the way off. Turns out that the bottom of it IS the top of the ballast tank.

RA,
Unless this is your boat, here's another with the same plate.

Is this plate located in the lowest point in the cabin sole. If so it looks simply as a a direct drain over the ballast tank and into the bilge. Perhaps to aid in flush cleaning the cabin/salon, or to help drain out any flooding. This of course assumes the bilge pump is functioning. The smallish ports in the side wall are to filter out all the cereal chunks that Kermit drops in the salon during breakfast.

I have seen this before. I seem to remember that the 26's had a habit of leaking around the top hatch and companionway. Water would collect on the floor at the bottom of the stairs and the pooling of the standing water would cause damage to the wooden floor. To remove that standing water, some installed those drain plugs to weep the water into the bilge. That's how I remember this mod.

I still think it's where you'd put in the Drain-O to clean the bilge out.

Fellows;

I will not go into my involvement with these boats nor the fact I nearly sold a quarter of the line or introduced these boats, they were not factory installed.

Maybe you guys are overthinking this, supposing it had a purpose onto itself.

Maybe for whatever reason a PO needed to drill an access hole in the floor or cover some damage, and used that plug as the most convent way to cover it up.

Occam would suggest so.

EDIT - Unless it turns out that more than one have the same deal. Then its a total conspiracy.

If that's the case, it would seem several people made the same mistake in the same spot. See the two pic's I posted above, and there's more. I wonder if a dealer was installing those for some reason. I'm really curious. Maybe this is some great option I don't know I want yet. :biggrin:
