Jack, right after Thanksgivings day the local Safeway sold their Shadybrook farms turkeys for 5 dollars each. Average weight 20 pounds. I bought five. I boned them out and froze the meat. The carcases I boiled with onions carrots and celery and made stock(broth). Then I picked the meat off the skeletons and froze that in one pound bags. (got four). Last week i pulled one bag of meat from the freezer and two quarts of stock from the shelf cut onions, celery and carrots and made soup, 5 pints into the pantry and one quart in the fridge. I dumped half the quart into a pan with a big handful of noodles and made soup for Nancy and me. This noon we finished it the same way. Most of the cost was for cooking gas. Some of that soup will go to the boat this summer. I make sauce for pasta and posted a recipe for baked beans on ask all sailors. Jar lids cost about 15 cents each and the jars can be reused forever. Make or have made your favorites and can some for later.
Enjoy
