Run that diesel. Long and hard. A hot diesel, is a happy diesel.
And you're killing the poor thing if you don't run it an hour every time it fires.
Mules. Born and bred to work.
Efficiently. Economically. And of the Lord.

And don't accept the issues that come with an aging prostate..

One of the finest things you can do is to watch your depth sounder and follow the depth line two feet greater than your draft and enjoy the view of the shoreline while traveling dead slow.

That's funny because I know farm tractors that some days run ten hours pulling plows and other days run twenty minutes hauling one round bale in from a distant site. and those machine are 25 years old and have 5000 hours on their clocks.

buddy. if you look off your stern and you are making way.
just enjoy it.
3 knot's is rediculous.
ANY KNOT is sailing.
it's just being on your boat and having a destination.
why 3 knot's MR BILL?
sailing is peace.
THEN AGAIN.
if im in a hurry.
i can fire up the iron GENNY.
but im in no hurry and i don't have a RULE OF THUMB.
it's almost as if mr bill is HOPING FOR A LOUD MOTOR.

LET ME CLARIFY THAT . 3 KNOT'S IS REDICULOUS QUOTE.
I MEAN 'stating that 3 knot's' is WHERE YOU MUST turn on your motor is rediculous.
just get out. if your sails are up.
motor's off.
our making way.
turn on the stereo.
crack a brew and see where the 'WIND TAKE'S YOU.'
if you have a HARD AND FAST RULE of 3 knot's then YOU FIRE UP THE MOTOR FULL BLAST AND GO....then why own a sailboat?

Like you, i just enjoy being out on the water and given the chance to go, I will go out on engine power though i far prefer to sail (also a Hunter 34).

It is unusual not to have some wind somewhere in the vancouver area. I check conditions on english bay and Howe Sound through various web cams. Often, if English Bay is dead, there are at least some light puffs in Howe Souund or vice versa. If there is truly no wind then sightseeing around Vancouver Harbour is usually good for a brief jaunt. Tie up at a dock either at Lonsdale Quay or habourside park on th other side and get a bite to eat. Anchor off jericho or kits beach. For your GF, may I suggest a hammock chair (half price right now at Canadian Tire!) hoisted by the spinnaker halyard in the forward triangle and held off the mast with a short bit of rope to the forestay. Chardonnay, chilled for her pleasure. Perhaps a bit of music and a bbq dinner. I don't think she will object to motoring (not too far).

Nicer to get there with wind but still a good day.
