crack a brew and see where the 'WIND TAKE'S YOU.'
if you have a HARD AND FAST RULE of 3 knot's then YOU FIRE UP THE MOTOR FULL BLAST AND GO....then why own a sailboat?

Like you, i just enjoy being out on the water and given the chance to go, I will go out on engine power though i far prefer to sail (also a Hunter 34).

It is unusual not to have some wind somewhere in the vancouver area. I check conditions on english bay and Howe Sound through various web cams. Often, if English Bay is dead, there are at least some light puffs in Howe Souund or vice versa. If there is truly no wind then sightseeing around Vancouver Harbour is usually good for a brief jaunt. Tie up at a dock either at Lonsdale Quay or habourside park on th other side and get a bite to eat. Anchor off jericho or kits beach. For your GF, may I suggest a hammock chair (half price right now at Canadian Tire!) hoisted by the spinnaker halyard in the forward triangle and held off the mast with a short bit of rope to the forestay. Chardonnay, chilled for her pleasure. Perhaps a bit of music and a bbq dinner. I don't think she will object to motoring (not too far).

Nicer to get there with wind but still a good day.
