I have a 1995 Catalina 270 LE with a Westerbeke 20B two motor. I am having to replace the raw water pump, and need to know after I install the new pump do I need to prime or is it a self priming pump ?
It is a type of "rotary vane" pump and is therefore self priming, positive displacement pumps of this type pump both water and air and are often used as priming pumps for larger centrifugal pumps. (more than you wanted to know probably)
New impellors usually come packed with some special lube to help them seal and stay cool until the water gets there.
