Has anyone seen a rope clutch like this before? This is under the forward end of my boom and controls the out haul and jiffy reef lines. It includes sheaves to turn the line down to a small winch on the mast below the boom. A couple of the cams are corroded to the shaft, and it generally does not work all that well. If I take it all apart and clean it up and lube the pivots, is it going to be ok, or should I be thinking 'upgrade'.

I don't like the way the cotter pins were left but

it looks awfully easy to take apart. If it were me, I'd clean it up and lube it and then see how it works. It looks easier to repair than replace, and that it was installed to be a permanent part of the boom. Good Luck Joe S

I always felt

thease were made by the shop in house...maybe I was wrong per Paul's post...they always seemed so simple and fail safe..Just drive the pin out..polish everything up..McLube it and put it back togather..a periodic shot of Mclube should keep it in good order..

My 23 has them

there aren't even any springs..the "spring" is just the tension you put in the rope. I never really trusted it, i put a cleat on my boom for the reefing ling, but i've never actually had the cam open on me.

Isomat

I did a little more research, I think these are actually early Isomat parts, and some replacement parts are available (but not cams exactly like that) but this is also a Taiwan built boat so custom parts and welding is common. Joseph - thanks for your answer, they do look easy to dismantle, although I'll bet the alloy cams are corroded to the SS shaft. Never the less this is clearly where I should start.
