Yes, we did have quite the rain storm. 12" in 3 hours resulted in flooding of several neighborhoods and overflowing streams. Most of the houses in those neighborhoods are elevated which helped mitigate the damage.
Fortunately our house is on a terraced hillside and the previous owner turned the yard on the uphill side into a huge French drain. Most of the water flowing off the mountain is routed around the house to the lower lot. The stream next to the harbor had some impressive flow with a lot of debris, tree trunks, etc flowing into the bay. Here's a link to some video I shot from the jetty between the stream and the harbor. Our canoe club is on the opposite bank. With the exception of a ton of drift wood and debris being deposited on the beach, the canoe club came out fine.

I remember those storms from my youth in Kailua. No school because the roads and schools were flooded. Manhole covers blowing off the storm drains. Houses on stilts sliding down the mountain side. Mudslides on the Pali and Likelike highways. Back in those days those were the only 2 roads through the mountains to Honolulu.

Nothing too exciting here, but I'm nearly finished with fabricating and installing new Dyneema lifelines on Kolibri. 3 of 4 lifelines are done and I will do the 4th late this afternoon. I managed to keep costs low by reusing my old pelican hooks and teaming with a friend to bulk buy a 600' spool of 6mm Dyneema on his WM pro account. I bought the necessary 316SS fittings through C.S. Johnson & Defender Marine at a reasonable price. Here's a pic of the first spice and the first of four gates fully installed. This project has been surprisingly easy thanks to two excellent YouTube videos by Bottom Ups Boats and buying the right tools.
I did not use any knots. I used a locking Brummel splice at every location. Here's a very basic sketch of the setup.
When both ends of were free I used the locking Brummel splice technique shown in the first splice in this video:

Tools used were Selma splicing fids, Ronstan splicing needle with puller, and this pretty cool kevlar cutting scissors

Be sure to watch the second video I posted. I was really surprised at how easy it was to do the locking Brummel splice with one end fixed. The video is shot so it's easy to see what the guy is doing and he provides many great tips throughout the process. I also had my iPad sitting on the boat with me as I did those splices so I could follow along while doing my splices while hitting "pause / play / rewind" as necessary.
New solar panel day. 2 120W Renogy ShadowFlux panels replacing the old 50W panels. A significant step up to support the recently added load of a Technautics Cool Blue refrigeration unit for the ice box.
I've taken a summer job because a "friend" of mine said it would be fun. I'm not sure I like his idea of fun but the scenery is wonderful.

When cruising offshore from Belize we had an evening when the moon rose out of a quiet sea bigger than life.
This image reminded me of the wonderful experience.
That said the perfect imposition of a tall ship sitting on a flat sea in front of the moon is likely AI generated. But one can dream can’t they.

A few weeks ago a dumbass tourist from Washington state became infamous for throwing a large rock at a Hawaiian monk seal on Maui. The seals are on the endangered species list and ~1600 are alive today.
Here's a happy story...other than the dumbass being arrested and hopefully going to prison and paying hefty fines.
Last summer we pulled into Waimea Bay on a Sunday morning and dropped anchor. Almost immediately a juvenile Hawaiian monk seal swam up to the stern of our boat and hooked a large mass of fishing line around the water vane of our Monitor Windvane. We realized that the young seal was tangled up in the fishing line so we worked quickly to cut as much of the fishing line as possible. After a few minutes of cutting the seal shot out of the water free from the line. He hung around our boat for several minutes before swimming off to feed on a large school of fish in the bay. He returned several times that day just to hang out near our boat. Yesterday we were slowly drifting along after pulling up the anchor a slightly older monk seal swam up to the stern of our boat then hung out watching us for several minutes as we drifted along in the current leaving the bay. Same seal? Turns out it was the same seal. After posting the photos and story to FB a woman who works with NOAA tracking monk seals confirmed it was the same guy based off tag numbers I reported to NOAA. His name is Mana and he is the nicest little guy to regularly visit our boat in Waimea.
