Waxing a dry boat

We worked on the boat this last weekend. I cleaned the hull and tried to use rubbing compound on it. The rubbing compound looked like rouge (red). The hull just sucked it up so fast. I had a hard time rubbing it off. Next we tried a "cleaning wax." It worked better but it was "uneven." (See photo) This boat hasn't been waxed in years. It's very oxidized. I'm not going for perfect but I'd like it to be pretty uniform. What should I be doing different? Thanks for any thoughts.

Try Starbrite polish, then follow with a b good wax like one of the 3M products. Seapower is aslo a good wax. Have had great results w/ Starbrite, but you must follow up w/ wax.

There's this stuff I heard about on another forum. It's a hull cleaner, which you can get at Academy Sports. You spray it on the hull, like with a bug sprayer type thing, leave it for just a few minutes, and rinse it off. It is that easy, and it realy cleans. It is caustic, so you do need to rinse it off. Then you wax the hull with a good boat wax. Several people I know have used it and swear by it. I'm getting ready to use it on my Whaler.

You need to refer back to MaineSail's feature article on rubbing out the hull & polishing. All of your problems can be solved with the correct equipment & products.

I had washed the boat, 600 wet dry sanded and then used SeaSense Cleaner Wax.

I just want to get out on the water with some protection for my hull and then when it cools off (heat index in TN yesterday was 117) follow the steps in this article and go for a showroom finish.
