Now that spring has finally sprung in the south it is time for a wax on wax off weekend. I plan to use good old 3M one step cleaner and wax and just plain old 3M wax for the topsides.
Also will be doing a bottom paint project including using Mainesail's advice and trying a single edge razor blade scraper to remove old layers of paint and loose stuff. Will also be sanding the rudder (new in 2007) down to bare gelcoat and adding a couple coats of barrier coat. The barnacles really went after the rudder over the last two years at my barnacle farm in Beaufort. I keep checking the food network but haven't seen any good barnacle recipes yet, perhaps a nice stock made from boiling them could be used for soup? Ross as resident food expert any barnacle recipes? I think I could feed the whole world if these things are edible.
Lastly seem to have a restriction in cooling system so will need some disassembly, gut feel says maybe the elbow injection fitting might be the culprit from salt accumulation and corrosion, could only run about 2 knots of boat speed or it would overheat. nothing like engine work for us old guys all jammed up in unnatural positions for hours on end, leading to major surgery in the coming weeks. I am excited though that the new health care bill will pay for all of it. Once I am completely covered in blue bottom paint I'll send a picture so you can prove to viewers worldwide that blue space aliens really do exist.
