Pat, I experienced a 12" crack in my 272 water tank last November (above) and tried A LOT of different ways to fix the problem. Long story short, I had no success and getting a flex tank was not what I really wanted to use as a solution...until I discovered hot air welding. There was no one in the Charlotte area doing this sort of repair that I could find, but I did stumble upon an hot air tool distributor in my area. Although he was not set up to do repairs, he agreed to take a stab at my problem and show me how it works. After he cleaned up the mess I left behind and used the hot air welder to fill the crack, it turned out perfect. Plus, the $75 he charged me was far less expensive than buying a new flex tank. I've since found out that some plumbers do hot air welding on plastic piping, tanks, etc. so you just have to dig and find one that can do it. In my case, a little extra diligence paid off.
