Water in Hunter460 Chain Locker

We bought a 2000 Hunter 460 in January. It has holes just above the waterline on the bow outside of the chain locker that are intented to let water move freely in and out of the anchor locker. But when the boat is slowed from motoring or sailing and done squatting, water remains. I have read there is supposed to be a weep hole out of the anchor locker bottom through the bulkhead, but it was sealed up when a new bulkhead was put in.

Do other Hunter 460's have these holes on the bow outside of the chain locker or were they put in by the last owner? Have others experienced water remaining in the chain locker after use and how did you solve this problem?

I appreciate anyone's replies or ideas, as I am new to the Hunter-

I don't think it was intended to move water freely in, just out. There are stainless clam shells screwed over the holes to prevent water from entering when the bow goes underwater providing the boat is moving. Take those off, empty the locker, whether onto the dock or into the water and hose the locker out. It's probably just lack of cleaning, that's how mine were.

good luck

Water out only?

Guys, thanks for the replies-

Uncledom, so you're saying the clamshells are only supposed to let the water out? Mine let it go both ways-

It's not like they can stop water if the bow dips below the water as in too much weight in the nose and they are constantly submerged. But if the boat is heeled and moving thru the water, the opening is to the rear and the water should glide past without much if any entering the chain locker. As a matter of fact the chain locker should continue to drain just like taking the plug out of the dinghy while moving. Hope I explained it and didn't muck it up worse.
