The drips from the stuffing box on my O'Day 280 drain into the engine compartment rather than the bilge, which can result in a good deal of corrosive salt water sloshing around under the engine. This doesn't make sense to me, but I don't want to drill holes in the engine compartment floor to drain the water because I don't want the potential for oil in the bilge. Has anyone tried channeling the water from beneath the stuffing box directly to the bilge using a small hose? I would think that a shallow cup or pan connected to a hose would do the trick if I can figure out how to mount the pan and where to route the hose. If you have any experience doing this, please let me know what works for you. Thanks!

Should you re-stuff your box?

Seems to me that a drop every 20 seconds or so should not produce so much water that you have it sloshing about. You should have no drip when the shaft is still. Tighten up the box, or replace the flax. Good luck.
