Anyone have any experience removing (or detecting) water from between the liner and the hull of a Catalina 22? I have a '72 swing keel #944. The boat is sitting lower in the water than it should and I'm guessing water has gotten in there. I'd be interested to hear others' thoughts. Thanks.

you re not the first

we have the same problem, and have seen similar posts either in this area or the smaller boats section of this website. if your boat is taking on so much water that it is sitting lower, then my idea os you must have a whole bunch of water, and that it should be very obvious everywhere. in other words, i feel doubtful you have all that much water. on the other side, i do not see a problem with this unless you are in a cold wintry climate and the water between the hull and insert should freeze and expand; this would complicate your matters considerably. we take our boat out at thanksgiving, and make sure she sits on the trailer bow high, allowing what water is there to drain aft for removal. hope this helps at leaast some.

Thanks

Randy...I will check the small boat area for posts there. I do live in a wintry climate which is part of my concern. The other concern is the bottom and barnacles. I understand the bow-high position. My question is how do people access the area between the liner and the hull to even determine if water is the cause? There is no built-in access point for the area. Ideas?

leak

I have a 1970 catalina 22. The places that I have had leaks were the Keel pivot bolt ( early models), the Keel locking pin, as it sits at the water line, and the cable hose, also don't forget the cockpit drains(the sometimes get cloged with dirt and over flow. I have heard of water comming in through the joint between the hull and the deck especialy at the bow where the for stay will pull the bow deck up some. I hope this helps. Fair winds AL
