Just purchased a 1990 Hunter 27-2 and going through some routine maintenance which appears to have been neglected over the years. I'm looking at the head and waste hose system.

The head isn't pumping completely empty and gets a bit of waste water back in after pumping. I'm about to change the pump and joker valve but taking a look at the hose it appears as though it simply runs back toward the holding tank (uphill) and goes directly to a Y valve, then either out to a seacock or to the tank. I can't find any kind of anti-siphon or high point in the system.

Is this normal for a 1990 27ft Hunter? Also, the Y valve appears frozen in place. Any ideas on how to free it without opening up the system?

If the toilet is original, that's waaaay overdue! But the new pump should include a new joker valve. If it does, just save the other one for future use. I'd replace the hoses too.

In your waters, you can't legally flush overboard, only into the tank...so when you rehose you won't need a y-valve or an antisiphon in the discharge line (easy to add both if/when you ever take the boat offshore). However, you DO need a vented loop in the INTAKE...not in the line between the thru-hul and the pump, but between the pump and the bowl. And depending on how far the tank is from the toilet and its height relative to the toilet, you might benefit from a loop in the discharge, not necessarily a vented loop.

Yep...it's about par for a 15 yr old boat that's been a neglected...

Nope. See above.

Let me know if I can help you end up with a trouble free system.

Thank you for the advice. I tried the 'damp cloth on the hose' trick and they don't appear to have seeped through yet, so I would rather not replace them. Since the Y valve is stuck I think I will just put in a connection and go directly to the tank.

The Y valve may be safety wired closed. Look very carefully for stainless wire or a bracket holding it in position. It is technically illegal to dump in your home waters, however, that boat may not always be in your home waters. I like keeping things as designed.
