I was just wondering what other liveaboards do when it comes time for registering to vote, and what cruisers do to vote. For that matter, what about drivers' license renewal? We don't own a home any longer and we don't get mail at the boat. We have a post office box in a reliable mail/ship store where we know the owner. The mail box address looks like an apartment address. And the store is in a different city/county than where we live on the boat (closer to work). Clue me in ya'll!!

I was able to register in Seattle but I had to do it as if I was homeless. They required a street address and used the county courthouse address. They were willing to send me an absentee ballot to my actual mail address. It might be different now. Seattle lets dead people vote as long as they vote for the correct candidate. I have changed addresses but they may still be using my old registration to get their favorites elected. Chicago has nothing on Seattle except they have been doing it longer.

to register in California. It asks for your home address and has a box for a description (such as slip B-24 or something) and has a separate entry for a mailing address. You shoudn't have any problems - if you hurry! The deadline is 15 days before the election. BTW, how is Marina Del Ray as a live-aboard location? My wife is concerned about crime and security and I'm curious, too. My favorite voting abuse system is to make a voter enter a large room, choose either a red or blue card and walk across the room to stuff it into a box. Kinda makes it hard to vote for the opposition, doesn't it? Cheers, Bob s/v X SAIL R 8

Thanks all. We've applied for permanent absentee ballots so that should work out fine. Living aboard in Marina del Rey is nice. We've been on the boat here about a year. We haven't had any major theft issues although someone did steal our water hose. There are two security gates to the dock and you need a keycard to enter. We see the sheriffs patroling the basins all the time. We're in H basin in front of the public boat launch and the public parking lot that fills with many roving motorhomes that people live in...free weekend entertainment!! ha ha ha. My beef is with the owner of our docks - the bathrooms/showers are filthy, the dock are old wooden ones and could be replaced with nice cement ones, the power and wireless internet could be better. Here in SoCal we pay very high slip fees so I feel he can afford it!We're waiting patiently for a slip at our Cal Yacht Club two basins over but I might die before getting in there (and I'm only 43!!). We have great dock neighbors several of which are liveaboards also. We're within walking distance of restaurants, grocery stores, WestMarine, Boaters World, etc. We like it alot.
