Are Yanmar parts really more reasonable?
I have a MD22L in my 1997 40.5.The engine runs great, but it does smoke. This is my second engine, the first replaced for smoking under warrantee. Now I have a chronic problem with raw water pumps and coolant caps. 4 months of use (100 hours) and they leak.My local Volvo dealer felt bad for me when Volvo told me to buy my own pump and cap the second time. The first pump failed in warrantee on the second engine. This second pump failed in the second year, 4 months out of warrantee. Anyway the dealer gave me the pump at his cost $196.41, list price of $280.59. The coolant cap cost me $24.14 with a list of 34.49. Can you imagine a radiator cap for 34 bucks?!!Yes, I think this is still way too high, but doesn't Yanmar stiff everyone just as much?Volvo is going to hear from me on this, but I doubt they will budge.BTW, is there anyone but me that thinks a 1 year warrantee on a $10K engine is totally inadequate? In the north, that one year is really 5 months of use.Rich
