What cable have you been using until now? Figured should ask that question before suggesting direct burial RG8 and two feet of adhesive heat shrink to cover that portion of the cable that is outside of the cabin or do you get a whole bunch of UV inside? Then you could use the same fittings that you've got if they have not been water damaged.

:plus:
PL235 fittings are a 1 and done.

Loss in a poor fitting is to be avoided.

I assume the open center pin is to allow one to solder the solid core of the cable?

Please do share your source for $2 connectors!
The core is cut long and extends out of the center connector. The center is heated, not the wire and solder allowed to flow into the center pin. Once it is cold, trim the wire and file it smooth.

This may or may not be the one you need:

Hey @Project_Mayhem, I'm sure you would love to make your own cables, but for now, may I recommend finding a Ham Radio operator to assist you. VHF radio on the boat is VERY important and the difference, literally, between life and death. Do not be ashamed to ask for help from the local Ham Radio Club. They would love to assist a boater with their radio needs. And, they usually work for free, but sometimes a beer will get you more help. LOL

Good Luck!

If you don't have experience, then this is better advice than mine. :)
