North to Alaska
Hi Stu,Personally have not been North of Desolation Sound so take this for what it's worth. But I've talked to a lot of people who have and am planning an eventual trip up in my H335 so have done a lot reading etc. Some thoughts:1. Couple of books: Don Douglas, Exploring the Inside Passage to Alaska; Charlie's Charts North to Alaska2. Ground tackle: A damned good anchor maybe CQR 35 lbs and lots of chain and rope rode; also plenty of extra line for a stern line and a mechanism to deploy3. Heater; it's gonna be cold. How will you heat the boat at anchor and what will be the power drain to run the heater.4. Closing in the cockpit; you are going to get rained on a lot in the cold; it might be good to explore a spray dodger that encloses the cockpit.5. Take all the spares with you you think you'll need because you'll have trouble finding them up north.6. Prepare yourself to be self sufficient on the boat with repairs etc.7. Electronics; I wouldn't go North without radar; gps, electronic charts and redundancyIt should be a wonderful trip. Keep us posted.Gary WyngardenS/V Shibumi
