Another newbie question:. I'm enjoying an extended cruise, but I want to attend a wedding for a week. How can I leave my boat unattended for 1-2 weeks?

Where are you located? Most marinas, now-a-days, are gated. I might be more inclined to find a mooring to leave the boat at, depending on my finances and the time frame.

There are always exceptions, but most boats on moorings or in marinas experience no problems. Check your insurance policy. The marina will definitely have a blameless and indemnification clause, so they would help only to provide the gate and cctv.

thanks. This is all new territory for me. I'm currently in Pensacola. Given that my timeframe for repairs keeps slipping, maybe I'll just talk to the boat yard here about keeping an eye on it. If I finish early, there are plenty of bays to keep me busy until then.

I don’t get the problem. At one time or any other, I suspect everyone here has not been to/on their boat for “1 - 2 weeks“.

Tie it good; double lines in event of an early tropical storm. Close all thru hull valves and turn off AC & DC power. Tell your marina or dock neighbor to keep an eye on it. I didn’t realize you were in Pensacola; thought you were in Ft Lauderdale.

Locate the boat in a good marina.
Close all your through hulls.
Provide for air circulation in the boat.
Deal with onboard food as it is likely to spoil.
Close up the boat. Put on a lock to slow down an unwanted visitor.
Give the boat a kiss, and head off to the week of vacation.

I set my boat up and leave it in the marina for several weeks at a time each month.

If you want to be certain your boat will be there, unharmed. when you return, HAUL IT OUT! Covid should have taught us all that any intent to return as planned is tenuous.

If your boat can't survive two weeks on its own you have problems. When was the last time that your boat was going to sink had you not been living aboard?

Hmmmmm, not so sure about that. It's highly dependent on the locale, and also, the location of the mooring in the locale. New York City and New Jersey, for example - lock your boat! But, you will still be robbed. Even in virtually crime-free Westport, MA, where I am, boats way out from the marina on moorings are robbed. I have a buddy who "donated" two Honda generators and several electronic pieces over the last 20 years.
