Drifter? Gennaker? Code Zero? Screecher?
Call it what you want.... loose luffed drifter, furling drifter, Utility Furling Sail, Screecher, Code Zero ..... they are all good marketing for the same thing to work as a light air headsail to make you boat move in less that 8 knots of wind .... the other solution is to use the Cast Iron Genoa which is flown below decks..... basically the sail we are discussing is a cross bwteen a conventional drifter flown in the roller furling foil and a cruising spinnaker it is designed flatter than an cruising spinnaker, fuller than a drifter, has a positive luff and leech while a drifter has a straight luff and negative leech and it is flown on a loose luff using a roller furling unit to ease hoisting and lowering.... the product became popular in Scandinavia about 4 years ago... the down side is that nylon doesnt like being furled so there is a good chance of stretching the base material faily easily.... I have been selling and servicing sails for 15 years...
