Unusual Noise from 8/21/2000 (Part 2 )

1986 Catalina 27. The noise that we have heard is a whine that only is heard between certain speeds as stated before in another post. The whine noise can NOT be heard in or around the motor or transmission while the motor is running. The only thing different that we have done to the boat before the whine was noticed was mount a danforth anchor on the bow rails with a mount bought from West Marine. Any comments? Thank you.

I to have a slight whine from the engine/transmission area. I seem to get it around the 1,200 rpm area. I have not been able to identify the sound. We did nothing to the boat from last year except put a new anode on the shaft, and painted the prop.

John,  I wonder if the whine is coming from the prop itself? Re-post to this article with your e-mail, and I will look for an article about propellers that was in Yachting about 6 months ago. It covered cavitation, unusual noises - all that stuff. Might be what you have. Rob
