Ahoy,

Does anyone know what this device is or what it's function may be. I think it may be telling in that it has posted on a component "N1 88.0 Khz". Does anyone recognize this, I have only began to trace it and have not gotten to the source yet as it is routed through the crevices of the boat.

Thanks,
Bob

It looks to me, based on the circuitry that it is a flow thru temperature sensor (albeit homemade, and using the original Japanese designed board) with larger thermocouple inside the elbow/coupling and calibration pots on the board. Perhaps a temp sensor for engine cooling water or the hot water heater. So Benny's assessment is spot on...trash!

Where in the boat is that?
Kito,
In the process of re-powering I have been going over the entire boat. This was found aft laying on the bottom of the hull just slightly before the steering quadrant. I can't believe this was "a place for everything and everything in it's place". I have no idea of where it may have resided originally. Oh well.
Cheers,
Bob

The board was built by Japan Radio Company (JRC) but this doesn't appear to be related to any radio device (no crystals on circuit board). There's clearly some sort of housing missing for the board as well.

Wife tells me to throw it away.. I put on my aluminum foil hat and tell her that when the North Koreans shoot down the GPS satellites, and our gubmint finds and knocks the kudzu vines off the antennas, we'll still be able to navigate.

I still have my sextant. Unless Kim Jong-un can shoot down heavenly bodies, I should be OK. ;)

Aluminum foil hat = radar tuning...

Could you send me a photo inside the plastic piece? It is intriguing to figure this stuff out. I think I know but need to see a little more.

Jeff,
I will be at the boat tomorrow and will take a few "profile" pics of the plastic piece and post them tomorrow, late afternoon.

Jeff,
Here are a few more pics. At this point I believe a piece of an old LORAN sounds like the most likely probability.
Cheers,
Bob

The plastic base looks like it mounted on a rail....what does a GPS antennae look like inside the plastic dome?
