Yep, an old Loran filter/amplifier that was on the base of a long whip antenna. The filter for 88 KHz was a major clue. (Loran actually used 100 KHz, but that's another story. ).

I think you can safely throw it away. But wow, I just love finding old stuff and trying to identify it.

I ran a loran since I could afford one in the 1980's. I still actually have one in the box brand new but since the US government, in their great and limitless wisdom shut down all the stations, guess it's going in the trash soon. I heard England is still using ELoran so they and their boating, freight, and fishermen are not dependent on the US Government controlled GPS system. (Someone might think they don't trust us).

Seems the rest of the world all use GPS.
