Universal Kubota experts - water pump

This is related to previous post pump failure.

I've found about 4 different Kubota part numbers to replace Universal part number 300203, coolant pump. Motor is m18. 300203 also fits m25.

One Kubota pump had threaded outlet, another is nipple. Also revisions.

Which one do I need? My pump is all hoses. I can guess nipple but need expert advise from someone who has done similar. I've attached pics. BTW Check out the black liquid on the hose, throttle linkage and elsewhere, that's not oil but burned coolant and belt bits mixed.

ITWMB, I'd take it off first, then check the internal (unseen) parts against what you see in the blow up diagrams on marinedieseldirect.

You could also check with Depco Pump in FL, www.depcopump.com

Here is what I got last year from Kumar Brothers. It was the right one for the M-18 on my 1985 O'day 31. Fit well and still working fine. At the time, I wrote these comments about the pricing.

Here's an interesting one. A fresh water pump for a Universal M-18 ( which I think is the same pump as many of the other Universal diesel engines) is $99.75 if you buy it from the seller's site that references Universal Marine or $59.85 if you buy it from the SAME site under the tab for Kubota engines. Same manufacturer's part number (KBC01003WP) 66.66% more expensive when related to a marine part. When I called them the sales guy looked it up and said yes the one they sell under the Kubota tab is the same as the one sold under the Universal tab and it will work. He was kind of chuckling when he said it. I thought it was funny too but in a different way. Oh well, at least it's a lot less than getting it from an actual boat part retailer.

I notice now the part number on their site for the Kubota has a 2 at the end. They have it listed as for the Kubota D950. Same pump though.

Interesting.. The Kumar Brothers site has the OEM part number as 15534-73030 The Kubota official parts site has the part number as 15443-73030.. but they are for the same tractor models..??

Yeah. My confusion too. I think it may (or may not) have to do with the top bypass output. One has a threaded output other is a nipple. Some use that for a water heater circuit. But my water heater hoses insert at the heat exchanger. So the pump bypass just goes to the thermostat 3 inches away (see pics). Therefore I guess need the nipple version.

Ok obtained the pump.
The latest version is part num ending in 34 instead of 30. Pics. This is the one with the nipple for hose bypass to the thermostat.

The pump from Universal (TOAD) num 30023 was $424 plus $10 for the gasket. I got original Kubota from Yachtsupplydepot for $122. And they tossed in the gasket no charge - reg $1.90.

Hopefully someone can use this updated info. 3/2015.

Yay! New water pump and hoses. Pic. Pump thanks to you all.

The hoses were a disaster. It raised suspicion with the original gold paint from when the motor was made 31 years ago, but when I got them off there were protruding wires, rust from the wires, depressions, and general fatigue. All hidden. Yet, they never leaked a drop.

Yassir, I change out my hoses every 31 years, whether they need it or not.

Since you are probably back from lunch now.....ITWMB I thought was trying to mean If It Was My Boat. If so, then I think it was spelled wrong.

Good to finally know that the official Kubota part is 15443-73034.. which is the number that replaces the 15443-73030.. It is SO confusing !
Skipper, you convinced me; I am going to change my 30 year old hoses this spring! Mine feel OK and look pretty good but the gray Yanmar paint on em tells me that they've been there since 1985..

I bought one off Ebay last December and motoring last week I heard one of those noises not hoping to hear from your motor , heat alarm went off, then the anti freeze steam started. The bearings on the water pump went out. Luckily I had this one which was a perfect fit, and we were back on our way in about an hour and a half. Just bought another from Ebay which came with a thermostat

Success!
Thanks everyone. I figured I would chime in my successful result. With the advice above I ordered the water pump from my local Kubota east of Austin, TX and it worked like a champ. They had it for me the next day. Replacement went easy and she's back in business.

I have the Universal M25XP in a '91 Catalina 30'. From the Kubota dealer below:
==========

Looks like 15443-73030 changes to 15443-73035. We do not stock that pump. We can have it tomorrow if we order it before noon. The gasket 15676-73430 is $5.54, also can have it tomorrow.

==========

Cheers,
Steve

What did you pay for the pump? When I did the same thing about 10 years ago or so, the pump was $65.00 and the gasket $1.00.

Based on the photos of your engine, it looks like you may still have the original alternator bracket which is an accident waiting to happen. You can view the Westerbeke service bulletin on Catalina Direct and the revised bracket
