Universal 18 horse engines

Any comments on the Universal 18 horse diesel? Has 1875 hours. Mounted in 1989 Catalina 27. Boat is for sale in Florida. Has been for sale for a while...Thanks,Mike Crawford

M-18

I have the M-18 in a 1986 Newport 28 and it has been completely reliable, no oil consumption at 25 hour oil changes, easy on fuel and always starts. Very easy to work on. Noisier and vibrates a bit more than Yanmars at low rpms, but otherwise just fine. Should be plenty of power in the 27. The M-18 is 14 horsepower and the engine in a marinized Kubota diesel. 18 hp Universal diesel

Is this engine model an M-18 which is a 14 hp engine or the M3-20 engine which is a three cylinder 18hp engine? I have the M3-20 engine and it has been a great engine. I had to rebuild the raw water pump after 800 hrs(it had a small leak on the underside) but that is all. I try to change the oil
