I live aboard a 1984 C-30 and always want the table down. The "L" shape setee is inconvenient at best. I plan on building a "U" shape setee and mounting the table on a pedestal and moulding in a water tank under this setee against the head bulkhead. If balance of boat is affected i will relocate batteries.I also think that moving the water forward will drop the bow a little which is also what i want to do. Has anyone tried this an is there anything i shoiuld know before i do it?

I built a U shaped settee

I built the U shape to house my heat/air conditioning. All has worked quite well. I built the top so it would use the end cushion (when the big table is folded down, three cushions come out of my Q-berth to finish the bed). I put a lip on it so that the new table which is pedistal mounted folds down to make a bed. The table is held up with two Todd Posi-lock table post system units (page 727 of the 2001 West Marine catalog. I'm ordering two extra square floor plates so that I have a place, out of the way, in the q berth to stow the posts when the table is not up (like during a race or in spicy water) The base for the side is cantilevered about two inches so that it doesn't hinder the bilge cover. The aft side is also cantileverd so that it looks better - like your kitchen cabinets at home. Will be glad to try and answer any questions. My email is RhetofVA@aol.com
