I am in need of suggestions for troubleshooting an apparent issue with my AC power on 2012 Hunter 39. The Line 1 main AC switch(immediately after the shore power connection in the aft cabin on the boat and not the main breaker on the distribution panel) is intermittently tripping. Meanwhile the line 2 connection remains energized and apparently functioning properly (AC units powered and running) Here is a long explanation of the circumstances...
This first happened two weeks ago following a heavy rain. I discovered the line 1 side of the distribution panel (batt chg, water heater, outlets, microwave) was dead. The line 1 switch in the aft cabin had tripped. All of the breakers on the distribution panel were in the on position and had not tripped. I attempted to reset the main line 1 switch and it immediately tripped. I turned off all of the line 1 breakers (main and subs) and then reset the line 1 switch. It held until I switched on the main breaker for line 1 on the distribution panel (all of the sub circuit breakers were off).
I checked the boat cord connections and the shore power pedestal (50amp/120v y'ed to 2 30 amp cords). When I separated the y to cable connection at pedestal, some water had pooled inside the marinco screw connection. There is no charring from loose connector/shorting and I assumed it may have been a ground issue caused by water. After drying out, I tried to reset switch... it still tripped. I left the boat frustrated and returned a couple hours later... the line 1 switch worked and power was restored. It has continued to remain powered until this past weekend when it again tripped. This time there was not rain and the y to cord shorepower connection did not have moisture inside. I waited a couple hours and the line 1 switch reset and power was restored.
Any suggestions for troubleshooting and finding cause??
For further background, about two years ago, the line 2 main switch in aft cabin would occasionally trip. I asked dealer about having it looked at and he indicated it was likely a problem with the marina shore power and leaking current from another boat. It happened a couple more times that summer and then has not occurred since. Now, a couple years later, it is happening again on line 1 main switch.
I've attached a picture of the front and rear of the line 1 / line 2 main switch apparatus should it help to show anything amiss. Thanks for any suggestions and advice.
