Trouble keeping Catalina 16.5 on the trailer

....First up, the bow strap. I'd say it is pretty horizontal. Should I lower it?

I wouldn’t. The bow strap is meant to pull the boat onto the trailer. Lowering it will cause problems at the ramp...the strap will have to ride over the bow stop, making retrieval more difficult. It’s also not the best way to secure the bow for transport. Instead, run a tow strap over the bow, under the trailer, and cinch it tight.

Also, don’t overdo it with the ratchet straps...you can deform the hull.
AND ...Loosen the straps when the boat is in storage. Fiberglass resin, though cured, can still creep under continuous load. Leaving the straps tight over the winter can cause the trailer bunks to leave permanent indentations in the hull.
