Haven't seen it mentioned yet, but I know most sailors must be watching to see where Hurricane Bill goes. Obviously a major event for anyone in the path of a storm like this. It looks like Bermuda might catch an edge (or more) of Bill and it continues to look like New England and Maine have some probability for a U.S. landfall if it doesn't get pushed out by the trough that is helping curve it to the east. Being on the water in Virginia, this time of year I cannot help but check frequently what is going in the tropics.
Most of you might know Weather Underground (www.wunderground.com), there is a tropical blog by Jeff Masters that has many amateur and some professional meteorologists posting information and track information regarding active tropical waves or named storms. The tropical section of that site has a lot of links to include predicted tracks, most of the models, historical information related to a particular or similar storm.
The National Hurricane Center (www.nhc.noaa.gov) provides the official updates as well as links to models tracks and historical data as well.
I have 3 immediate family members that are meteorologists/atmospheric scientists so I have some knowledge as well as resources when it comes to such events. Since this type of weather event effects the whole boating community, I find it appropriate to post information to our community here in the event that anyone is not aware.
