Just as a comparison, here's a screen shot zoomed back a bit of my chart plotter
I'll hazard a guess as to why the difference - the position on the website is from an hour ago. Next update will be 1609 EDT.

What I find interesting, I'm running about 4 different navigation systems, right now, three are up and running simultaneously. My COG, SOG on each system is not the same number. Close, but I've never seen them match. I mean, a decimal point or two different, but a knot difference? I see it all the time. Must be different algorithms inside each program of how they sample, and update the display. But Gotta admit, didn't expect to see such glaring differences.

Oh that makes a lot of sense. That would be about right actually.

It's pretty nice here in New Bedford, sunny with scattered clouds. The wind was blowing hard from the West in Westport today, I saw 20 kt. on the clock.

Lucky you, I just check for you because Volcanoes do effect our Weather.

John and I checked that today for our Science review on mid season Hurricane update, because dust causes high altitude rain.;)

JUst as a side note. I think we should all start projecting images of the world centered on the Pacific Ocean instead of the Atlantic ocean. It really makes more sense from a world geography point of view. Plus, it really shows just how BIG the Pacific Ocean is!

So you starting to plan your next leg? How about the Indian Ocean first?

Or from the Azores you could use the Trades and head for the Strait of Magellan and the The HORN! :yikes:

You could arrive maybe about mid December...

They’re probably each smoothing the raw data differently. The GPS antenna and speed transducer probably give raw data at least 10 times per second. The instruments need to reduce that to a readable frequency. Plus if you are comparing a built-in GPS to tablets and phones they might each be in different places and yawing and rolling differently.
