With the problem of fitting one of the new generation of outboards (especially 4-strokes) in the OB well of a 27, I'm curious whether anybody has any experience with the new 9.8HP Tohatsu 4-stroke? It's weight is low for a 4 stroke - more like the old 9.9-15HP 2-strokes that worked so well. From what I've seen, the size of the powerhead (the major problem with fitting new OB's in the 27 well) looks smaller too. The Tohatsu is available in long-shaft, electric start versions. But as always, the problem is you can't try out installing it in the well without buying it. Anybody tried this new OB?

Why don't you try a tape measure? You should be able to determine whether or not the powerhead will fit in the C27 well.

Tried that before...

The tape measure thing is a good idea, and it can decide a "make it or break it" point, but in my experience, there's always some measurement that you don't think of, that isn't obvious until you get it installed and try to tilt it up totally out of the water, or some angle that is off 2 degrees, or something else. It looks to me like it might be an OK fit, but before I spend $2000 to find that in order to install it I've got to take a sawzall to my transom, I'm wondering if anybody has been thru this. (BTW my 2000 Johnson 15HP 2-stroke is working fine - I'm just hoping that when it needs replacing in 5-6 years, there may be a slam-dunk replacement.) Thanks!
