I am trying to repair the pulleys on my traveler cars. Does anyone know the trick to remove the end caps on the traveler so I can remove the cars? They are made of rubber and have a pin through them but I can't figure out how to remove them withour damage.

traveler car replacement

My 1985 C27 has the curved traveler, probably the same one you have, and I just removed the pins and carefully pried the end caps off; it did not damage the caps. To replace the sheaves in the traveller control blocks I just drilled out the rivet that served as the shaft for the sheaves, replaced the rivet with a bolt and locknut, and used brass bushings inside the sheaves.

Question on Pins

Do you recall you removed the pins, are they threaded?

Removing pins

> Do you recall how you removed the pins, > are they threaded? Pins are not threaded. I think I just pulled them out with needle-nosed pliers, but I can't remember for sure. When I put them back together I used a little bit of glue to make one of the pins a bit more secure. The pins and the end caps should never take any serious force. Make sure that the traveler control blocks are locked so that they can never slide and push against the end caps. Also, I drilled another set of holes, for accepting the set screws in the control blocks, further out on the traveler bar in order to increase the range of movement of the traveler.

Thanks

Brian, Thanks for the reply, I will give them a yank. I bought new lines for the traveler when I noticed the bad condition of the pulleys.
