I am interested in buying a Catalina 320 in Portland Oregon but will need to transport it to Seattle. Has anyone had any experience with this? I would appreciate any feedback as to what is involved, basic costs and what to look out for. Thanks

How far is that by water ? Last I heard delivery captains in our area charge $2.00 per NM and provisions and transportation, so 400 NM would be $1200 to $1800. I feel more comfortable moving a boat on it's own bottom than by truck when possible.

Shorten the trip

Might shave a few $$ off of transport costs if you ship it to Olympia and then bring it the rest of the way yourself while enjoying South Puget Sound.

Costs for launching and temporary moorage may also be less in that area.

Good Luck!

Why not sail the boat yourself & make a vacation out of it? Of course I would wait for warmer spring weather. That is assuming that U have the knowledge, experience, crew, equipment, and a boat in good enough condition for the long passage. Food for thought. I have heard it said "To live your dream, not dream away your life."
Sounds like an adventure.

I just had a Catalina 30 transported about 130 miles, and it cost me $1800. I asked the company, "if I should want to move my boat across town (Nashville) to another lake, how much would you charge?"

He told me $1800; he said it's not so much the distance as it is the work at each end...

I had my boat shipped by truck. They did it by using a one ton dually pick up and a large trailer. My dealer said anything larger than the 320 would be moved by a low boy. Don't recall the cost.

Moved our 2007 C320 from San Diego to Seattle a little over a year ago. Trucking was about $4800 and commissioning was about $1500 on each end. Total was about $8000 for just transport. My costs went up as I added a TV antenna, painted the bottom, etc. We used Joule Yacht Transport out of Florida. They did a great job. However, for local PNW I would recommend Dudley Transport out of Tacoma. Join the C320IA and you will find advice in the C320I forums. Best $24 per year that I have ever spent. our C320 IA even has a tool loaner program that I made use of when tuning my rig after delivery. One piece of advice that I learned and followed when transporting our boat: " No one will pack the boat for shipping more carefully and reliably that the boats owner.". Have fun.

Wow, that's a hefty price tag... I priced a transport from NC to Nashville, TN (about 10-12 hours by car) and was given an estimate of $2500, but I don't know if that included de-commissioning/re-commissioning. If I'd been willing to wait 3-4 months, I could have motored my boat here, but the water is running too fast right now for it to ave been feasible.

My transport guy's policy is to get the mast back exactly as it was--whether it's properly tuned or not. He measures everything so he can restore it to pre-travel condition...
