Hello - I'll be a new owner of a Catalina 27 in a couple of weeks. One of the contract agreements is that we change the name (which we were going to anyway). Does anyone happen to have the measurements of the transom so that I can order the proper vinyl lettering? The boat is currently about 60 miles away. This is an 85 tall rig should that matter. It's got an inboard diesel and a stern ladder, but no other obstructions on the transom. Thanks in advance. Patrick

Transom size

I had new lettering made for my 1982 C27 TR with A-4 engine and swim ladder. 36 inches wide by 12 inches high was the window that worked for me. Phil S/V Catmandu

Don't forget the Denaming Ceremony!

Check out 48* North's site for John Vigor's Interdenomiational Denaming Ceremony. You MUST perform this ceremony to appease the sea gods and then perform a proper naming ceremony to maintain good luck in your new vessel. Have fun! :)

Phil, did the 12 inches also include hailing port?

Thanks for the measurements, Phil, but I should also have mentioned I want to put the hailing port on there. I'm assuming that 12 inches you measured would not allow for that as well. Can anyone suggest the total area or dimensions I have to work with to include both. Thanks, Patrick P.S. I tried searching the archives, by the way.

Yes, that includes the hailing port.

Since I am also documenting the boat, I noted that the regulations now say that that even the hailing port letters must be at least 4 inches in height. I fit everything in the 36 x 12 envelope, including the 4 inch high port letters. Phil S/V Catmandu Eliot, ME
