I'm installing a new depth finder this spring. Does any one know a good way to temp.mount the transducer to the hull to find the best readings. I know it has to be mounted without a void under it. Thanks Rob

Transducer testing

For temporary testing just fill a zip lock bag with water and put the bag between the transducer and the hull. I used silicone to mount the transducer temporarily, later I found that the spot I used had too much noise, so I moved it. It's still in the silicon 3 years later. Yet another method is to stick it to the hull with bees wax, easily and cheaply available in the form of toilet bowl wax. Some people have left the transducer in the wax for years also. Hope this helps. Peter

Silicone puddle

Do you have a transducer for mounting on the transom or thru-hull? For a transom mount, test the transducer by dropping it overboard until submerged. Then squirt a pile of silicone on the hull and place the transducer in the silicone. My 1st transducer was mounted this way giving the same results as a thru-hull installed later.
