I took the trailer to a local trailer place. We decided on this roller. They shortened the stalks and bolted the roller to them. I'll let y'all know after next weekend how it works out.

Nice, hope it works out for you. I took a look at my roller over the weekend, never really thought about it before. Now I'm wondering.....

I hope I didn't just jinx you. I'm not convinced this will solve all of my issues but at least I won't scrape up the hull with those stupid stalks anymore.

I intend to drive and work with Kermit on teaching loading and unloading as there are several things going on at one time.

I will see Kermit sometime in May.

Ashley; I will do the same for you if you want my help being in your front yard.

Thanks for the offer Dave I'll take you up on it some day for sure. You guys should think about making a short video, I think it would come in real handy.

I think guides for the keel are fantastic. Back the trailer in, winch boat into place (no heavy winching), pull boat and trailer from the water.

Update

Whew! We did it. My First Mate and I successfully loaded the H260 on the trailer yesterday. The new roller seemed to help but that was not the only thing. First, the water is way up. In fact, it was a foot above flood stage so we had real good concrete under the trailer. The next thing was that we took the time to figure out that what I wanted to do was right all along. Everyone at the club said I had the trailer in too deep. I always thought it wasn't deep enough. Sure enough, the front roller needs to be under the water. Otherwise the bow won't come past it. Once we realized that, the boat went right where it was supposed to go.

I also replaced the original goal posts with taller ones. The originals were so short that they would push the boat over from under the rub rail. A 10' goal post will not do that. Looks funny without a boat on the trailer but just fine with the boat loaded.

We were pretty darn happy that we got it done without anyone there to tell us what we were doing wrong. After being in the water for 2 weeks the hull was pretty grody. The pressure washer and West Marine hull cleaner did a great job on that. Oh, the Crystal Oceans hull cleaner doesn't work nearly as well.

This is NOT to mean I don't want Craaaaaaaaazy Dave Condon to come spend the day with me. I'm sure he can show me about a million other things I'm doing wrong. And how to handle the trailer when the water is down. I'm pretty sure Duke Power won't raise the lake every time I want to go sailing.

Like Ashley stated. Please video your lesson and share. Dave your experience is valuable to us Hunter owners. If I lived closer I would come by to learn.

I am trying to set up a time during the week with Kermit during the first week of June. Anyone want to come and video tape as I am not too swift with electronics anymore, that would help. What do you think Mr. Kermit?? Email me privately.

Like I said, May is full of graduation, painting house and getting the furniture out to redo floors, building a new home in the mountains of VA, yard work but most important of all, my second grandson and I am a proud papa and grandpapa. My daughter nixed crazy grandpa for simple grandpa. She rules the roost like my wife does at our home.

I'm with Dave on the video thing. If someone can come video the day, we'd love to have you. But I see no way on earth we can do it all ourselves. Gotta have a 3rd and probably a 4th person for that to happen. There's a heckuva lot more to it than just videoing and sharing the lesson.

Oh, and I don't see the problem for you to come by for a lesson. AB, Canada is only about 4 days away from Wateree Lake, SC. Come on down. We'd love to have you!

Did you put the keel guides on yet? We drifted around the lake some last weekend. When we pulled out Sunday afternoon, the ramp was packed with power boats going in and out. We slid up, loaded up and were out of there in no time, but I didn't realize until I parked the trailer that the centerboard was almost completely off the bunk. I was in a rush and didn't pay attention to it, backed way down and floated it on as far as I could, prob should have stuck to my new method.

Thinking about installing guides or just making the bunk wider. The boat is not really that cockeyed on the trailer, just enough.....

Good question, Brian. I'm having trouble centering the centerboard of my H260 on the board supports on the trailer. Everyone here except my Crazy Uncle Dave has encouraged me to add keel guides. Uncle Crazy Dave said he has seen several centerboards ruined along with hull damage when the boat didn't go on properly and hit the keel guide wrong. He told me he would cut me out of his will and erase my name from the family Bible if I install a keel guide. We have on occasion loaded the boat exactly right. But more often than not we have a bear of a time getting the boat anywhere close to right. Got any suggestions that our favorite uncle would approve of?

Thanks!

Whoa Partner....I think I have the solution!!!

7 years ago, I got tired of the same thing!! After all my hard work to keep my boat in tip top shape, I'll be danged if I'm going to let a post or poor design ruin the bottom or dig into the gelcoat.

Therefore, go to www.sailingtexas.com/pichunter235101g.jpg and see what I did to my trailer. NO more scratches!!

If the pic doesn't come out....try going to Snaptraxx Bunk Systems and see for yourself. Also, went to the double axle configuration and my trailing woes are over....smooth as glass. Hope this helps!! Good Sailing, Chris

Guide posts have worked best for me. I put four on our American-18 trailer and even my wife can get the boat on the center of the trailer single handed.

Strobeone,

Thanks for the picture and encouragement. Does your system help the boat load straight?

Thanks!
