I am looking for a trailer for my Cat-27. I am wanting to move the boat to Portland soon. Sailing this time of year is not an option and I really don't have the time to spare from work at the moment. I am looking for advice on trailers from anyone who has put there 27 on a trailer. I have moved the boat once with a trucking co and it cost me $1000. That included haul out and lunch and craine time to step the mast. Not a bad price really but I only moved the boat 175 miles. I would be interested in borrowing, renting or maybe even buying a trailer. Anyone know of any links to trailer resources that would be good for a Cat-27. Most important is how does the 27 ride on a small trailer. I have pulled bigger and lighter race boats and the load looked impossible and top heavy but it was more stable than it looked. How hard is it to find a trailer that I could use. I will hire the trucking co again before I spend $4000 or more for a trailer. I kind of expect to be selling this boat in the near future (maybe) and you may see it listed on this web site. I have a larger sailboat that I am living on now but I might be spending enough time in Portland to justify keeping both and have the 27 there. I look forward to reading the trailering stories. It can be done but........
Our C27 lives on it's trailer in the off season, but has been on several long trips by road. Moving it is fairly easy, with a good trailer and a suitable tow vehicle. I use a Chev 3500 dually powered by a 6.5 litre turbo diesel equiped with a towing package. If you are moving a long distance or over mountains I wouldn't use less. Here is where the "but" comes in, after a year of not being able to find a trailer I designed my own and had it built by a local welding outfit. At the time (1997) it cost me $4600.00 CAD since then (spring of 2000)my plans were used by another sailer to built his trailer, it cost him $6300.00 CAD. To us land locked sailers that have to put up with four feet of ice on the lake in the winter, there is no option, a trailer is mandatory. As for you, unless you can borrow a trailer or modify an existing one, and have access to a suitable tow vehicle it may be cheaper to employ a commercial boat mover. Ignore the truck in the photo it was attached to the trailer to make it legal to park on the road while the tow vehicle was used elsewhere. Echo Gulf sv SeaRaven

Randy, we are essentially in the same situation. we are looking for a 27+/- sailboat. let us know if you will be selling yours and how much? we have found a cradle that will need to be modified. we have a 10 ton and 8 ton equipment trailer, a cradle maybe sonething you might look into and then just buy or rent an equipment trailer. we have 1970 ford bronco 4X4, in excellent shape, fresh 302, 16" custom wheels that we would like to part trade. we have 21' macgregor with a trailer we need to upgrade. we probably will be traveling out to your area to look at boats in the very near fuure. thanks joe and carri
