What is the largest trailerable boat (by a gasoline-powered truck - Suburban, etc.)? Thanks, Faith

Hunter 26/260...

is right up there. The 260 is the newer version, 26 is pre-1998. There are bigger trailerables but by not much (a foot, maybe). I assume you're talking about boats with no fixed keel.

I made the same search last year.

Hi Faith, I decided on the H260 after much searching including a trip to the Boatshow at Annapolis, MD. There was a lot to look at there and you could walk back and forth between the boats to compare. With a hefty truck like a one-ton duelly you can pull something like a Hunter 280 or 290 or a 27'Catalina (or other similar boats), but you'd still have to have a crane to step the mast and a travel lift to launch the boat. So you'd probably just be towing the boat to and from home once a season. In my judgement the H260 was was the most "cruisable" boat that you could get to and from and in and out independently, and a Chevy Suburban in good shape should do fine to pull it. You'll want a transmission cooler if it is an automatic. Hope this helps, Joe C. in NC '01 H260 Windward Passage

340 Hunter

Would you like to see a picture of the boat on the trailer. We pull it with a Yukon . . . but in truth, we have a 3/4 or 1 ton pull it for any distance. To see the picture of it on the tailer, check the photo section. Now whether this is practical going through LA or down the east coast corridor is something else, but in South Dakota, you do what you need to do. Jim

Thanks - that's SOME trailer!

Thanks for your responses. I'll check the archives. The photo of the 340 Hunter is impressive... I can only imagine what your gas mileage would be. (Actually, I can't imagine doing that with a gasoline engine). Can't wait for the Annapolis boat show! Faith

Faith, We looked for a long time for a towable

sailboat that we could pull reasonable with a full size pickup. Safely. We purchased a Hunter 26/260 with a Hunter dual axle trailer. Tows great, is easy to set-up and rig, launches and recovers with little stress and sails like mad. It is a wonderful package. My next boat I'll pull with a semi far enough to reach the coast and head south to a warmer climate. Good Luck, Ray and Reba sv Speedy
