Crazy Dave, a VW Beetle pulling 750 pounds of boat would be CRAZY! I know through my experience with British GP14s that guys have towed the GP14 with an original Mini. GP14 are limited to just under 300 pounds, and over in England they tend to have lighter trailers than I think we do over here. Have you ever seen the 5th wheel VW Beetle camper? https://youtu.be/SpwH9WeVEfU :D:D:D
When we bought our m26c new in1993, the dealer, Mr. Gerry Berg of Vancouver bc showed up pictures of a VW Rabbit towing a Mac. While it certainly presents limitations, and big ones, it could be done.

LoydB:

Loading and unloading isn't too awful. So far I've only done it a couple of times, but haven't crashed the boat yet either. Won't be able to get pictures till summer. I'll be sure to take pics and post them.

Upper deck raises and lowers via hydraulic pump, cylinder and marine style cables. The maker actually used Sta-Lok fittings on the cables. The upper, trailer deck has a center channel which accepts and guides the tongue prop wheel. There are ramps for the wheels and the center channel. There is an electric winch mounted to enable it to pull the boat/trailer rig up the ramps onto the deck. A tongue prop with ball at the forward end accepts the trailer's coupler once up on the deck. With car and motorcycle off the trailer I line up the "rig" by hand at the ramps. The rig is light enough to muscle around on the ground with relative ease. Winch cable gets hooked onto the trailer, trigger the electric winch and it slowly climbs up the ramps onto the deck. Coupler is secured to prop, and the rest gets secured with heavy trucker style ratchet straps. That part I need to work on. First attempt wasn't so great. Unloading isn't too bad either. Set up the ramps, connect winch cable, motor out the cable as i push the rig off the deck. Once the wheels are on the ramps it drops itself down the ramps, whch is the reason I use the winch to unload. Next time out I'm going to try using a rope with a turn or so around the prop stand. Amazing how much force you can cinch up that way. The whole operation isn't as bad as it sounds.

Test drove an Impreza last night. Used 2011 2.5i Not impressed. noisy, buzzy, thrummy, underpowered. Insisted on downshifting itself OD to 3rd on slight hills at 70 mph. Any application of throttle caused downshift. Yet not a responsive car. I think I'll be looking elsewhere.

That's one of the complaints about the older 4 speed Subaru transmissions. Mine shifts like crap. My cousin traded a couple year older Outback than my '11 Forester for a Ford Edge, said she was sick of the crappy transmission.

I'm not going to be able to afford a different vehicle anytime soon, 'cos I'm buying a house, so I'm stuck with it. It'll be paid off next summer, and hopefully it will last longer than that. I'd really like to live without car payments for once in my life

Well, the deed is done. I went out and bought a very low miles 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. Way too much money but it somehow answers the questions and fills the needs for now and later. V-6, loads of power for pulling out and highway towing, lousy milage, 9 speed which is ridiculous, (no body has ever seen 9th gear), low range with lock up rear, factory towing package which includes HD oil cooler, transmission cooler, hitch, electrical and so-on. 4500 pound towing capacity. Enough for all I'd want a car to do. More options than I know what to do with. I had to post a picture . Anybody need a 200,008 mile Toyota Camry? CHEAP????

That's a good looking ride. I have wondered how those headlines work, are they LED?

The "eyebrows are just the daytime lights and turn signals. headlights are small circles below. On this particular car they are at best mediocre. The good news is so far after 600 mines the transmission hasn't blown up!!

I have a Ford Escape with 'smart 4 wheel drive' (engages automatically when needed). It is slightly smaller than the Jeep, not much, tows my Potter just fine.

I don't know how I missed the original picture but that is awesome. Fwiw I have pulled my Mac 36s with a Buick Terraza which was an under powered minivan (Chevy uplander or Saturn relay). Never had ramp problems but only used a couple of ramps. Switched to a Honda Ridgeline.
