Tow Vehicle

We want to buy a Catalina 27, but would like to know what type of tow vehicle is needed to transport. Also, how difficult is it to raise the mast?

3/4 ton truck at least

The C27 and trailer weight combined is at least 9000 lbs(we've had ours on the scales several times). It is most important to ensure the vehicle you choose is rated and marked by the factory for a towing capacity equal or greater than this. The DOT does not consider after market additions to the vehicle when they check you out. Mast raising/lowering is not to difficult if you have enough assistants and a good system (ie: bi-pod). EG

Good advice above...3/4 ton at a minimum. Also, be sure you have an adequate hitch. Most trucks require an equilizing system for gross weights over 5000. The other thing to consider is the Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR), that is the total weight of the truck and the total weight of what ever it is towing, combined. As an example, if you have a Chevy 3/4 ton with the 6.0L engine, your GCWR is 16000. If your truck weighs 7500, your trailer and load can weigh no more than 8500 (7500 + 8500 = 16000).
