I have a 1985 c-27. Does anyone know where I can order a pre-made topping lift? Thanks

Try Catalina

Call 818-884-7700 and ask for parts. If they won't supply it, you should ask for technical support and David will gladly send you a drawing, or give you the dimensions so you can make one, or have it made locally. These are often made of vinyl coated stainless wire, with a thimble at each end and secured with a Nicopress crimp fitting. You can actually buy all the parts and make this in the store at West Marine (at least you can in New Bedford, MA). For my C-36 I used Kev-cord, a super-low stretch, super high-strength cord with a dacron outer braid and Kevlar core; I seized the ends onto stainless thimbles. jv

Rigid Vang

Consider putting your money toward buying a rigid boom vang and eliminate the need for a topping list. Garhauer Marine is a great and economical source for one.

Topping Lift

Roger, My local rigger put one on my 27 for around $120. What he installed for me is a much better rig than those which run up the mast and over a sheave. It is a plastic coated cable which is bolted to the mast head with a block on the other end. At the end of the boom is a padeye on one side and a cheek block on the other. A piece of line is run from the padeye thru the block on the cable and down to thru cheek block to a cleat. What is nice about this rig is that it is adjustable from the cockpit while reefing and you don't have a lot of extra line; and when the line wears out there is not much to replace. Good Luck.
