Add a 8 foot bowsprit and you'd have a skipjack!! I didn't think you could pull the mast that far back. That's a wild boat you got there.

Simpler solution

Mike Y., let me suggest an easier solution to your excessive rake. I reached the same conclusion, that my back stays were just not long enough to properly tune the mast. So I had a local welder cut me a new SS plate to connect the split lower back stays to the upper section. I added about 6" by replaceing the equalateral triangle shaped piece with an isocelese (sp?) triangle about 9" or 10" tall - I've forgotten the exact measurment. Combined with a backstay adjuster for split backstays, it works great. Jim Kolstoe, h23 Kara's Boo

Good Idea Jim !

Good simple idea - I like it ! But I want to add another seperate backstay for redundancy. After I determing the end:end length, I'll get 2 seperate backstays. What did you do in the front ? Mine doesn't look like it will shorten up enough to take up another foot of rake - did you have the forestay shortened ?
