VC-17

Doug, I have used VC-17 on my Catalina 27TR for a number of years. What I have learned is that it evaporates very very quickly in a paint tray. One tip that I learned a few years ago is, get a large ketchup bottle and put the mixed VC-17 into the ketchup bottle and squeeze it onto the roller to apply,it saves alot of paint.

Second the ketchup bottle

I use this method as well. I find the 44 oz. squeeze bottle w/resealable lid works best. Holds an entire quart easily. I usually squirt the paint onto the roller, but I might experiment next time by using a very small tray and squirting just enough paint for the roller to absorb all the paint. This may allow better coverage as the "squirt directly on the roller" method leaves gaps when rolling unless you're real careful to fully load the roller. It also will keep the paint from hitting the ground when I miss the roller.

Works Great

Doug, I used VC=17 first time this year on my new 32 Cat. Loved it. Bought 4 quarts, used 3. Sloppy with paint tray but I found it went fine following the instructions. I rolled one way until paint was gapping then reloaded to dripping. Sure some paint hit the ground, but I was done in about 30 minutes with the whole boat! I'll take a little over use of the paint for the time anytime. Spread some visquine down first if your concerned about ground droppings. Good Luck.

One more thing

If you want to completely eliminate some of the overlap marks (possible friction on the water), a friend told me to rub the dried job over lightly with newspaper. Did that and the overlaps went away completely.
