throttle brake

the throttle brake on my edson pedestal has worn out, so the throttle lever doesn't stay in place. is there anything i can do about that?

I am not sure how your's is, but on mine there is an adjusting screw just below the compass and on the lever of the shaft itself to apply more friction.

thanks! mine has that as well, but it's tightened as far as it ca go and no result.

A short strap with Velcro from the handle forward to the binnacle handhold? Ask me how I know.

Meh - perhaps theoretically dangerous, but I never felt unsafe. Only used it for cruising because the handle slowly shook lose and I'd slowly notice that instead of 2,200 rpm I was only doing 1,600. Anyhow, at 6.5 knots even near land things do not change that fast.

A slit rubber tube bridging the casing/pushrod junction... tight clamp on casing, adjustable clamp on pushrod end...:)

I'm with Ted. That's what I did.
You can get a longer plastic or BRASS screw or
a brass stud w/nuts to hopefully solve the problem.
Don't use steel, it will wear out the throttle shaft.:yikes:
