Thinking of dealing with a Thru Hull Transducer

My nav pod is really in the way of my sight line. I wouldn't do it like mine. I can't see forward from the pilot seat.
On our last boat I built a bulkhead mount inside and outside. The unit mount had keyhole slots so I could set it inside when not sailing. I figured it was less likely to be stolen that way. The downside; while underway the cable had to go through the companionway. A couple of pics: the black mount can be seen in the cockpit photo just to the right of the doors between instrument covers. inside storage shows it above and starboard of the frige. This allowed me to do planning while closed up inside. The boat is a 1977 Sanjuan 28. This setup may be too far away from your helm but may help you come up with an out of the box idea. . The Sanjuan was a tiller boat.
