Thicker secondary filter o-ring and bleed screw gasket

I understand the thinner stock o-rings can leak, and when I changed my filter last there was a thicker o-ring installed than the stock one (part 24342-000440). I’d like to have some extras on hand for subsequent filter changes, but don’t know where to get them. ID is 44mm, and the ring appears to be ~3mm thick.

The bleed screw on my filter also doesn’t appear to have a gasket/washer. I don’t notice any fuel leaking from the bleed screw, so I believe it’s adequately sealed (I assume this is a pressurized location, not a vacuum location, and a leak would produce fuel exiting at the leak instead of air entering). I’d like to have some gaskets on hand though.
any suggestions on where to source these?

Also, can anyone confirm that a leak at the bleed screw would produce leaking diesel when running the engine?

What engine?

I would assume, but can't confirm, that a leak in the bleed screw would emit fuel when the engine is running.

Yanmar 3GM30F. Yes, I’m referring to the “on engine” secondary filter.

Buna is oil resistant. These o-rings will last a long time and are cheap to replace .
Diesel fuel can cause rubber components to become brittle, crack, swell, and degrade, which can lead to leaks or complete failure of the rubber seal. Diesel is a harsh petroleum-based solvent that can break down the internal lubricants in O-rings, causing them to deteriorate.
However, nitrile rubber, also known as Buna-N or NBR gaskets, offer excellent resistance to oil. Viton O-rings are also resistant to diesel fuels

Can anyone confirm the appropriate ID for these o-rings?

I purchased 3mm thick by 38mm ID, to provide an OD of 44mm. Is this appropriately sized or should I have gotten o-rings with an ID of 44mm per the ID of the stock o-rings?

Or am I over thinking this and I should just install the 38mm o ring? I’ve had a hard starting issue and want to eliminate the possibility that air may be entering the system through an ill fitting o ring.

I just came from drilling out the hole for my remote mic on my boat, sorry I missed this posting, I would have checked my supply of filters. I‘ll be there later this week and get some more detailed information for you.

On my 3GM30F, like colemj stated “The bleed screw has a seal. Yours may still be stuck to the housing.”….It Happens.
A set of Dental Pick Tools will help get out the old O Rings if you can’t get it out, but you will need a new one for sure.
Have you also wiped it down and checked the banjo bolt for a leak, it could be there. In the picture of my filter housing it shows a diesel fuel stain, but thats from when I bleed it after changing out the filter, not a persistent leak.

This is the filter for the engine mounted fuel filter, it comes with the O Ring for the housing, not the bleed screw.

You can check with Old Port Marine in Newport, RI 401-847-9109. They have most, if not all the parts for your 3GM30F

Just in case…..My other filter is a Racor No. 110A (Filter is R11T) Yours may or may not be the same.

I have noticed a very slight amount of fuel on the feeder line between the lift pump and filter housing. I picked up some appropriate compression washers for the banjo fittings and will install them when I am next down there. My question: would it be worth it to just replace the entire filter housing as well? It only costs $85. I am chasing a hard starting issue and want to just eliminate possible failure points.

O-rings are standard sized using the ID and the cross section.. Since the part # has the "44" in it, I am gonna guess that the ID is 44mm .. The parts manual does not show the cross section number, listing it as "S" but again 3mm sounds about right.. the OD would be 50mm (44+3+3)

I would use the correct size O-ring. Oversizing usually doesn't help seal. Unless you have damage to the seating surfaces then a thicker O-ring may help.
