Decided that instead of replacing the through hull for the overboard discharge I’ll just glass it instead and since the old knot meter was there I decided to make a bigger patch while at it!
Wish me luck, never attempted such a big project with glass/epoxy.

thanks, took a bit of time to cut all the pieces, and making sure everything was saturated properly.

Well I finally had time to sand the patch down, it has a few low spots but all in all a nice job

What kind of valve? Is there just a through hull fitting with no shut off on it? You can get in line valves for the 3/4 hose, but that won't work for a through hull shut off.

The bottom paint doesn’t act as a barrier to water - gelcoat does...
I didn’t read previous comments but if your patch is glass and resin, it should be sealed with gel/epoxy.

simply that any raw glass patch should be protected from water/moisture by either gelcoat or epoxy barrier coat or both.

Use an epoxy primer not gelcoat. Gelcoat is (usually) polyester which is not as water resistant as epoxy.

The epoxy primer will also have instructions for hot-coating the anti-fouling to get a good bond.

I don't think you want to hot-coat ablative. That is more appropriate for hard anti-fouling paint.
