One of many aspects that have always appealed to us about our cruising grounds here in the Pacific Northwest is relative safety. Almost never a report of piracy. Other crime is at a minimum, and we always feel safe cruising out in the remote areas of Washington and British Columbia. Is all that changing?Canadian authorities have just reported a sixth case of a severed foot washing up on beaches in British Columbia smack in the middle of our favorite cruising grounds(Please see attached link.) No one seems to know what's causing this--an Orca Whale, a strange series of accidents, or the latest incarnation of Jack the Ripper.Maybe like Joshua Slocum, we'll need to start spreading carpet tacks on deck at night.Anyone know anything more about this? What's the buzz in Canada about it?Gary WyngardenS/V Raven N52
