Good luck '41. I'm sure you can do it, especially after all the work you've already done for your Siren.

Trailer guides

Galvanized trailer guides made with the help* of a friend who has a blacksmiths workshop (bcblacksmith.com),
(*he did most of the work .. I'm proud of being there while it's done, giving the wrong advises and drinking beer and I even got some dust on me too..) still I'll need to attach a chain covered with PVC pipe between the posts to the trailer front.

Nice trailer guides. They'll help a lot when retrieving your boat, especially if you don't have finger docks.

Those are really nice trailer guides! I have one Mac with them at the back and one without any. Huge difference in loading! I plan to make another set for the trailer without.

On another note;
I smashed the side windows out of my Siren 17 with a hammer today! Great fun!
I couldn’t get the spline out of the rubber plexiglass holder. It’s 39 years old so it’s a bit hard.
Breaking the plexi was the easiest way to get it out. I used my 16oz Estwing hammer to crack it then I just pulled it out of the rubber. The rubber came off easily after that. This is in preparation for the new windows I made today. I thought I'd try the1/8" Lexan on the Siren and see if I like it before committing to it for the Mac's.

I made a paper template and cut the new bolt on windows out of smoked Lexan. After cutting them out with my jig saw I sanded the edges and drilled holes. The hose are for the 10-32 bolts I picked up today from Lauries Fasteners.
After drilling the holes in the Lexan I taped the windows in place and drilled the holes into the cabin top for the bolts.
My project was cut short by rain and I thought I had a caulking gun here. Seems it’s in the shop with the other 5 I have... So tomorrow I will install the Lexan using silicone and bolts. I really don’t like using silicone on a boat but the way these windows have to be installed it’s all I can use. I'm going to taper each hole a bit like preparing for butyl tape and hope for the best.
The pool next door is almost done! I'll soon have my driveway back! Last picture is the delivery of the trees.

I love those guides. I wish I had a welder. Maybe I need to ask for a cheap one for my birthday next month and start welding stuff.

My guess here is the boat needs to be on the trailer to get good measurements? Those are fantastic!

:D:D:D

Sailing (or surviving) yesterday with amazingly fast building monsoon storms - it was sunny about a half hour before these pictures were taken... could have been worse, I could have been at work..

I got the windows installed in the Siiren 17 today. They look great! But I can't show them here yet...
I went swimming with my phone while I was launching the Siren at the club. No wind... perfect for single handed launch... Off the trailer and gust! Right toward the other dock and just out of arms reach. Yea! I can just walk over! Except another boat was just pulling in to haul out! It was a dinghy...
So in I went. (Of course the boat hook is in the boat. And I didn't have it tied to anything because I had just put the launch rope in the boat too!)
I reached out grabbed and held on to the pulpit top and just kicked my feet and got the boat back.
Once I was in the water I remembered my phone was attached to my hip! I yanked it off and put it on the bow. Once I had tied the boat I pulled the battery out of the phone and put it on the ventilated seat of the car. (It was still working when I pulled the battery!)
So it got better from there too. It started to pore rain and didn't stop until I was on the way home... I should have just dove in the lake once I got to it. I couldn't get any wetter. I was drenched.
Now my Blackberry Torch 7350 is taped to a fan. I'd take a picture but...
I'm going to let it ride the fan until morning and try to fire it up again. I hope it works. I really like this phone. It's what I use for all my photos and videos.
Just in case I have put my Fake Iphone on the charger. It does everything the Iphone 1 does. Just ................. that much slower.

Almost forgot; I put new turnbuckles and the OB mount too.
I got new turnbuckles because the ones I had got were too long and one was defective. (Stripped threads.) Now I have what I think is the proper amount of mast rake.
(It's hard finding info on the Siren 17... Like turnbuckle length. I am member of the Siren group on Yahoo but the site is clunky. Really clunky.)

Nice pictures Walt. You're right. Being at work would have been worse. I wouldn't intentionally go out in such a storm but love the experience when it happens.

41, Hope your phone survives. I had a similar experience with my phone. My wife was attending the tiller and motor while I went on the foredeck to tie off to the dock. I don't know what happened. Things were going fine and the next thing i knew we accelerating toward some big rocks. I hopped off to push the boat away from the rocks. My wife cut the engine and I swam the bow line back over to the dock. Once I got the boat tied up I remembered the flip-phone in my pocket. It still worked but I couldn't see anything in the display. It took about two months for it to dry out and return to normal but it did survive.

Today I installed padeyes on each side of my cockpit so that I can use a second mainsheet to pull the boom to windward in light air without pulling it down, similar function as a travler without taking up the cockpit seats like a travler would.

It survived! A night riding on the fan and a couple hours in the sun on the BBQ and my phone is as good as new.
I went through my Mac sails today and found a "storm" sail that came with my first Mac. I wanted to see if I could use it for a jib on the Siren. It fits! It is about a 110 for size. It has been cut down form a bigger sail and has a wire in the luff. The leach is just cut with no line or edging... (Another winter project.) I washed it with the hose in the back yard while I checked it out.
We took it out and tried it tonight and it worked fine. We didn't have the main on as it is on the dining room table awaiting batten pocket repair. I'm also going to put a reef in while I'm at it.
We have the club championship this weekend and I need the Siren in top condition...!
Here are some pictures of the new Siren windows and one of the sky I took while fumbling with my wet phone.
Also the trailer fenders I made from scratch and installed today. And the tiller extension holder I made installed.
(People say I think outside the box... I just know there isn't a box!)

I sewed a reef into the main sail of the Siren today. Also added some tell tales and gave it a wash with the hose in the back yard.
Added 5 grommets after I had sewn in the 5 reinforcement pieces.
I'm racing it this weekend in our club championships.
I have to tune up the sewing machine before I do any more sail work. The top tension doesn't work right all the time...?
It's not fun sewing a line and looking underneath and seeing huge loops of thread... Then ripping it all out and sewing it again. (Funny the 2nd time usually worked... And I didn't change anything between lines...?)

Cool ice box Walt! (pun not intended but it fits) Thanks for including the drawing so we can see how it works. Where does the water exit from bilge pump.

I seem to do a lot of that backyard sailing. Today I'll be backyard motoring too.
(Gotta run the engine for a while once I get it back together. The carburetor is soaking in the dip tank until the sun comes up.)

Looks good! Hey Bud, I like your turtle decals. Really adds some character to your boat.

Hjornetann (Yor-na-tan, our golden retriever) loves to go sailing and camping. We didn't have a way for him to get from the dinghy to the boat and vise-verse so he hasn't been able to go cruising with us unless we knew that there would be a dock for him to jump onto. Now he can with the ramp I made for him yesterday. I took a video of him climbing into the boat but it's too big to upload here. It took some coaching and a few treats to get him to climb up it at first but now he has no problem.

If both you and your wife are involved in the boat.. priceless!!

ice chest drain.. dont know yet - probably just a tube to an empty one gallon water jug.

After owning the 26S for something like 8 or 9 years now, I seem to be "in the mood" to change a bunch of stuff in the interior. It had been set up for the family to go out for a week, in the future, it will be just the wife and I mostly marina hoppiing partly using the boat sort of like a water RV that still sails fairly well. I just added two LED reading lights (upper right corner in the picture, one more where my wife likes to read) so I now have seven total LED lights - you cant have enough:D

I also think I would like to watch a little TV.. good thing as I only have room for a "little TV" but am thinking about re-doing the area in the picture. I had this set up for a drop down 12 volt DVD player. I am thinking about dumping that, cuttting up the cup holder and put a small TV there that has an off air tuner - and a way to hoist a good off air antenna. The TV would run on 12 volts. I would still get a small home type DVD player and just run it off the inverter - since I just wouldnt do this very often. When we did the family trips, my kids would watch two DVD's each day.

You can go to digital movies (stored on a drive) and use a computer monitor or laptop or iPad.

As for a TV, I see this flat panel antenna advertised that they show on a boat. I don't know how well they work tho.

It turns out that I can put a 19 inch flat panel TV in the spot I want if I cut up the coffee cup holder.. so.. the cup holder is going to get cut up.

The TV I was looking at just to see if it fits iis a 19 inch LED TV 17.88 inch by 12.81 inch.

The spec shows it using 30 watts which seems high.. I dont know if this particular TV runs off 12 volts and that is important to me. Looks like the TV might run 2 to 2.5 amps or so at 12 volts. Still looking.

I checked the power draw of a home DVD player - uses 0.7 amps @ 12 volts run from an inverter. This would not get used very often.
