Come on Guys

And yes, I am writing under a false name, (and to disarm a handful of you), because I don't have the guts to appear here under my real name - not after the way a LOT of you have treated James. I don't post here much, I mostly lurk and learn. As James said here, I've learned a lot about several of you over the last few days. Who here is so self important that they didn't learn something from James' so-called scam? What has caused this to be such a firestorm? Is it because you took your literary and intellectual talents and put them down on the internet and you think it was for nothing? First of all, don't be so full of yourself. You didn't come off as that intelligent, and certainly not as a literary giant. Secondly, some of us (myself included) learned something from the question. So, your mediocre literary and intellectual talents weren't wasted after all. Get a life, move on, get over yourselves. Good grief.

As You Can See by My ID

I am new to the sailing world. While I have been around boats most of my life, they weren't those that had a sail. It is my hope that the long time members of this forum do not let James' post affect how they respond to others. If I post something, it is because I really am seeking answers or assistance. A couple of others have mentioned that they did get something out of the thread posted by James. I am one of those as well. I found it interesting to read others opinions and I got some good out of it. However, I am greatly disappointed at the motives that James had for posting what he did. It is my hope that no one here refuses to respond to questions to "newbies." We need your help and I, for one appreciate it.

To Caleb ...

Sorry it took so long to respond. Wow, this thread grew since my post yesterday! I think somebody already pointed out that the Politics, Religion, and Angst forum is on this site and widely used by many of the sailors here on this forum! Just scroll down on the Index of Forums. In fact there are many other forums in this site that are a wealth of information and a great place to discuss topics! I am afraid that there are a few sailors that moved over to Politics (I call it the dark side) and rarely come back here (if ever). If you go back just a few years ago, many of the discussions in this forum morphed into political rants and many were uncomfortable with that. Phil, in his infinite wisdom suggested creating a forum just for politics. I was one of those that was not uncomfortable with political squabbling and I thought that removing politics from this forum would lead to the demise of both this forum and the new political forum as all of our postings would be fractured. Boy was I wrong! Both forums seem to maintain a high level of interest and this is the only website that I visit for forum discussions. We stick to sailing in this forum and we get to scrap like cats and dogs in the political forum. At least for my part, I find that I can respect the opinions and learn a great deal from many of the same people in here that I can argue with and be as disagreeable and confrontational as I feel comfortable with in discussing politics. Sometimes (maybe even too often), hard feelings creep into the political forum but then I can visit over here and all is well in my mind! I value the input that we get in both forums as long as I maintain a healthy balance. If you go over there and express an opinion, be prepared for the responses that can be pretty confrontational. There is some baiting and nastiness that goes with the territory. Like life, it isn't always pretty, but it is interesting!

Bill/Steve, you make it so.......

Steve, you make it so hard to disagree with. With the amount of replies James got in all of his posts, it kept a lot of us busy. If everyone here had something better to do, they would be doing it. I for one am bored at work, not much to do here at times. I cant figure out why so many take it so personal. Someone was just playing on here, thats all. If the truth be known, Phil Herring is James. His evil twin made him do it. OK, maybe now I have some of your attention. Phil Herring works very hard at maintaining this site and also improving it with new features. lots of folks on here thank him and congratulate him, but yet dont respect him enough to help make this forum more successful by registering and filling out a profile in the OWNERS DIRECTORY. Just more idle talk, after all, it was registering that led Phil to bust James and Sherlock to bust Bill/Steve. Has this got anything to do with excercising your rights under the "privacy of information act"? In my not so humble opinion, LOL Fire away...Tony B

ya'll believe he's a veteran? How gullible are ya'll? I don't /won't/can't believe a word he says now. He'll just change his location/name and post more garbage and we'll be the nice folks we are, and answer his query. And thats my spin on this. Welcome home guys!! Keep it up, Ctskip
